How to Stay Safe While Waiting for Roadside Assistance on I-95
I-95 through Philadelphia is fast, busy and narrow in places. If you're stopped on it, safety comes before the repair — always.
First thirty seconds
Hazards on immediately. Steer as far right as the vehicle will allow, past the white line and onto the shoulder if there is one. If there isn't, keep moving to the next exit at low speed with hazards on rather than stopping in a lane if the vehicle can still roll.
Stay in the vehicle, belted
On a high-speed highway, a belted occupant inside a vehicle is generally safer than a person standing beside it. Do not stand between your car and traffic, and do not attempt a tire change on the traffic side.
If you must exit, leave through the passenger side and move well beyond the guardrail.
Call 911 first when you're in a lane
If your vehicle is blocking a travel lane, this is a police matter before it is a roadside matter. Call 911, then call us. Follow the instructions of police and highway personnel — they may relocate the vehicle before any service can happen.
Help us find you
Give us the direction of travel and the nearest exit number or mile marker. Northbound near the Girard Avenue exit is a different world from southbound near the Betsy Ross Bridge.
